We, I and Micdoodle8, had a short talk about the forum. We agreed on some measures to clean up the forum and make this place more friendly for players who want to contribute to the Galacticraft mod.
We haven't talked about forum rules yet, I personally don't think that rules are needed. In principle, disruptive behavior whilst people expect to be able to discuss and contribute to the mod (which this forum is meant to) is unacceptable as well as respect should be always a common practice, anywhere. We don't need moderators and rules to tell us that.
These are the measures that will take effect until next Sunday, May 4th:
1. Member spam clean-up: We are removing the topics that add nothing to the forum. Topic hijack/derail posts, irrelevant and off-topic threads and the like will be removed and won't be tolerated, at least the most blatant ones.
It doesn't mean that any kind of off-topic won't be allowed or removed altogether. Slight and short off-topic posts that do not derail the thread are allowed. However, posts that hijack the topic will not. A good off-topic post is when the flow of the discussion offers "cues" that you can jokingly comment on without being disruptive (example).
If you happen to have something in these off-topic threads that you think it's worth saving, do it ASAP.
(EDIT: if you want just to chat and spam, use Skype, private message on IRC or whatever, just don't spam the forum)
2. Addon section: Most of topics there, nearly 80%, were created by people who had no knowledge on Java. They start a topic promising the addon, try to find someone who will do all the job, talk about the idea for 2 or 3 pages and then abandon the topic. Then we ask why there are almost no public, downloadable addon for Galacticraft?
Minimum requirements: only post about project plans if you have an unchallengeable proof that you have started working on it, such as video showcase, beta download, etc. Screenshots of mcmod.info, textures or to-do list aren't proofs. Galacticraft addons are for and depend on Galacticraft, otherwise please post your project on minecraft forums or planet minecraft.
Abandoned projects will be locked and perhaps deleted. Active topics with no proof will be given 15 days to show any actual progress in order to be kept.

3. Member content moderation: Until now the moderation has been limited only to spambots, but considering the offensive behavior shown in some posts and how it has been growing into a threat to the forum, it's time to extend the moderation to members' content.
Please, be nice and respect other members and their opinions. Please, be rather helpful member than a judge over other fellow members. Even if you have a point in a discussion and the others may be wrong, it is in no way your right to offend. Otherwise, we moderators will take actions to stop disruptive behavior. Personal attacks are unacceptable!
The moderation is not about policing members, but it is about keeping a decent standard in the discussions.
