The question is: what is the rover supposed to do? Idea: it rolls over the surface and somehow marks the position of ore veins. Other idea: it rolls towards the nearest non-plundered dungeon and waits there.

Im nowhere but also everywhere
Or it's controlable remotely to do various tasks, like sending it to mars and then using it to remotely setup a base over time. As long as it's got charge it's controlable/operational and there should be upgrade slots like certain machines from other mods for things like expanded energy storage or solar power.

There can even be a reinforced upgrade to alow it to drive through lava so it would be useful for those dangerous areas the player can't reach safely on planets like Venus. Honestly theres so many thing that can be done with then that listing them all while im this tired is pretty much impossible xD

Maybe the rover could have a energy/oxygen storage so you could breath in it? And maybe the rover could just be called a tier 2 rover, instead of a mars rover?

Maybe if the rover has some kind of hover-mode, then that'd be easier to manuever through the terrain, and also if it were used as a scanner then that'd be good too. So when the players goes to mars, he can open his ore-database-thingy or something, and see the ores location.
And maybe the rover (or droid by now) would have a camera and controls like if the player was flying over mars.

Now, having energy and re-charge rates would make this better, and then having to make the "rover-hover" extend its solar panels for energy, or go to an recharge station.
