Basically, right now you pretty much plant a sapling with a little bit of water around it and boom, you have a full blown tree in 6 bonemeal or less. Granted, it's perfectly fine if you want to break numerous laws of nature. What I'm... erm... proposing is a system in which you feed carbon dioxide to a sapling/other plant which allows the plant to convert the CO2 into oxygen usable for the player. Of course, you'd have a slightly more complex system compared to the current leaf block+oxygen collector=oxygen.

First off, you'd need a machine that could extract CO2 from its surroundings. Probably would be called a CO2 Extractor. Naturally, you'd need to have CO2 for the CO2 Extractor to, well, extract. You could do a couple of things to make this happen:
CO2 Emission System Details
First off, you'd need a machine that could extract CO2 from its surroundings. Probably would be called a CO2 Extractor. Naturally, you'd need to have CO2 for the CO2 Extractor to, well, extract. You could do a couple of things to make this happen:
- Feed coal/charcoal into the machine directly, which would slowly burn away the coal (roughly 5 coal per MC day.)
- Feed a lava bucket into the machine directly, which would give 5 MC days of CO2.
- Craft a Space Kennel* (detailed later in this article) and hook it up to the CO2 Extractor via an Oxygen Pipe. This would give perpetual CO2 for as long as the animal is living (the only catch-22 being that you'd have to have an oxygen pipe delivering oxygen to the animal as well).
- Feed a stack of Soul Sand/Netherrack directly into the machine for roughly 10 minutes of CO2. (this would mainly be used as a temporary fuel until a more sustainable source is found.)
- Feed the Dragon Egg directly into the machine, which gives you an infinite source of CO2.
- As for cross-compatibility, I guess it would make sense that other machine-esque blocks would produce CO2 (so you'd need to hook up a pipe to the CO2 Extractor).
