A Base on Mars for Galacticraft available for download
For Galacticraft 1.6.4

This is a base on Mars that I started to build before Galacticraft Mars to be released. It was made entirely on the Overworld, and the terrain around the base was converted to reproduce an martian landscape.

The base itself is pretty cool and fully furbished. Focused on detail rather than size. The equipments and machines are working. Next to the base is an village with Alien Villages and a pyramid with loot waiting for you.

DOWNLOADS

Download the world and follow the instructions. It's a modded world.
(all my worlds are here too: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/2315530-)

Required mods for 1.6.4:
  • Galacticraft 1.6.4-2.0.10.972
  • BiblioCraft 1.5.5
  • ModularPowersuits v1.6.4-0.10.0-92
  • Mekanism 6.0.3.30 or 31

Update (2014/03/28):

News: A new image gallery of the updated base is up. Bear in mind it was started before Galacticraft Mars release, it was made entirely on Overworld. The actual Mars dimension has a hardcoded sky/atmosphere so it's impossible to "recreate" a martian sky.

I managed to remove all liquid water and freeze all underground water pools, replaced grass with sand and coal with iron, removed tress and did other shenanigans. The results are satisfying.

But hey, there was no Mars in Galacticraft mod. It was entirely made on overworld. To give the martian feel, I took screenshots during the dawn and sunset. The brown-red sand from the texture pack helped a bit.

Complete gallery with description and stuff can be found here: here

EDIT: The texture pack is Distant Anomaly for MC 1.5.2: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1342793-1332x-distant-anomaly-41-alchemy-ingrediants-update/ (for 1.6.2 WIP: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic...t-anomaly-revival-161-new-stuff-added-852013/)

Thank you both.

That sun looks pretty large on the horizon for standing on Mars!
Yes, it makes sense, and you're not the 1st one to say that.

But I had a hard time trying to edit the texture packs to add a proper fog in far-view distance. It seems it works only in Optifine or something, I got tons of crashes to run it with the mods I used.

Someone else suggested me to make a two-moon variant for the moon. But, well, as I am not a texture artist...

The map itself, I'll need to upload it somewhere, it's past 250MB, unless I trim it down.

That's looking really intimating. Hopefully it won't be one of these global ones that last for several months...

Though global dust storms would alone be a pretty cool feature, but if it also changed the planetary texture in accordance would be really cool. From orbit it could possibly be within a day observed as bland texture covering a local region before it "explodes". Maybe even a weather satellites could warn the player in advance.

I think you are intimating, your replies are scary.

j/k

Storms in Minecraft are global already, just they act differently depending on the biome. I think I should try to simulate a dust storm with potion effects and see what it gives.

You drink that mead and pray to the right god, because then you're gonna see storms when Thor strikes with his Mjölnir.
