It is not to much closer its the carbon dioxide trapped in the atmosphere. It traps heat in, also known as the greenhouse effect.
That's happening on Earth too. People are releasing carbon dioxide (with other chemicals) into the atmosphere from all the factorys, cars, etc. That's why ecology is important to keep the Earth from turning into a Venus-like planet.

What might be considered Earth's evil twin might just as well be Earth's unfortunate and misunderstood sister. If Venus just had a better start in its early days by being allowed a faster rotation speed (hence possibility of a strong magnetic field) and granted tectonic motion comparable to Earth, then it wouldn't respectively be constantly raped by solar winds nor uncontrollably spew out carbon dioxide into its atmosphere. :(

All it needs is some love and support from its more fortunate sibling Mother Earth and her children so Venus also can become a welcoming harbor of life.

Your post made me sad. :(

On a more serious note, yeah, I agree, but unfortunaly Earth's children are not courteous, and they might kill Earth before they can even get to Venus, because they're using what is supposed to be Earth's brother Mars' cure for it's dead landscape on Earth, where it is actually a poison.

Off-Topic: Your post just made me think of the idea of a humanized Solar System that's a big family consisting of the father, Sun, and his ten children(counting Pluto and the Moon):

Mercury - One of the three youngest children, but oddly the first. He is very clingy and somewhat afraid of his sister Venus, so he usually stays near the Sun(even though the Sun's heat is much bigger than Venus'). Age: 11

Venus - The second child, and a bit older than Mercury, Venus is thought to be the 'evil' daughter, though she is just misunderstood, given how she had a rough childhood caused her to have a fiery temper and sometimes be cruel. Most of her siblings dislike or are afraid of her, except her twin brother Earth. Age: 15

Earth - The third child, and Venus' twin, Earth is usually the healthiest of the family, being active, and also friendly. Due to his good nature, he is friends with all of his siblings, except Jupiter. He is also the only to understand Venus' problem. Age: 15

Moon - The second youngest child, Moon is mostly shy, but hangs commonly around Earth due to his friendly nature. She is also friends with Mercury, and terrified of Venus and Jupiter. She also is the only sibling to have freckles. Age: 12

Mars - A cold-loving child, Mars has an habit of constantly being wearing cold-themed clothes, sometimes even when it isn't remotely cold. But other than that, he's pretty normal. Age: 14

Jupiter - A real bully. Since he has a huge inflammation on his left cheek, he is afraid that his siblings may make fun of it, so he decided that the tide could be turned by him being rude, calling them names and the such. His slack-friend is Uranus. Age: 17

Saturn - The most studious and courteous of the siblings, Saturn usually spends his time reading books instead of hanging with the others. His bookworm personality led him to often be called an 'egghead' by Jupiter, usually causing Saturn to call the bully a 'knucklehead' in return. He is also the only one to be neutral towards Venus. Age: 16

Uranus - For recieving such a ridiculous name, Uranus has had a similar past to Jupiter - he is rude to others in order to avoid having his siblings or other people to put a space between the first syllabe and the second & third syllabes. However, he usually goes much lighter than Jupiter, sometimes even remotely helping others, though usually when Jupiter isn't around. Age: 17

Neptune - Similar to Saturn, Neptune is also studious, but only about the ocean. He has a very high liking to the ocean and it's life, and vows to be a deep sea diver one day. He and Saturn usually pair up to study about the ocean, and as such, are good friends. Age: 16

Pluto - Being the third and last youngest child, Pluto is usually forgotten, but not by neglect. He, like the Moon, somewhat enjoys being alone and away from the others, leading him to commonly not be heard about by the others. Age: 12
