Yup Mars has overworld biomes, so do space stations actually. This Can be VERY annoying in Mo' Creatures is installed, mob spawning are biome-based.

So I just had a little thought. Mars as it stands it kind of a boring environment geologically speaking, especially when coming from Earth with something like Biomes o'Plenty installed.

(The real) Mars, due in part to its lack of recent geological activity, has been transformed by many meteors which have left characteristic 'biomes'. Meteors left not only craters, but craters surrounded by mountain ranges. Massive chasms many times the size of the grand canyon exist. Fields of frozen carbon dioxide are at the poles. Long-dormant volcanoes dwarfing Earth's largest mountains. Also the sky, it's a kind of pinkish-white, rather than black.

It'd be nice to have some kind of representation of that in-game, Mars is an incredibly interesting place.

What a useful reply. It just means it's a popular idea if something's suggested more than once, more likely to be something that would make the mod better.

Already been suggested several times..

Sure, we have made a lot of experiences to depict a martian sky:

The thing is, the current sky implemented on Mars is bugged and, I guess, Micdoodle8 would need to create a new sky engine since Minecraft's one is pretty limited. That's why we use MCPatcher and Optifine to break things a little bit.

Although you may be right, it is typically common forum etiquette and is generally encouraged to search for and contribute to existing threads before creating a new thread of the same topic.

Having said that, several people including myself would agree that it would be a nice addition to see this happen!

Well having searched since, I haven't found anything with the scope of what I'm suggesting (although forum searches are notoriously useless) bar the sky colour and possibly an ice plains-like biome. I think it'd be useful to keep a discussion like this going as the others seem to have dried up, and I do know quite a deal about Martian geology so I can quite readily help with accuracy.

edit: and a lot of planets' geology, thinking about it.

Yes, it takes a while to fine-tune the search and some guessing. People usually are not good at "topic naming" or they post in the wrong sections or they just talk about the subject you are looking for in a topic that has not to do with that (a.k.a. off-topic). Also, discussion about martian biomes aren't that recurring.

I don't know if Myscraft has custom sky engines or whatever, but the ages have tons of sky color (and other things) possibilities. The guys over there are pretty nice, and I'm sure they'd help Mic out if he needed it.

That's true, they do have a pretty good system. They've got customisable celestial objects, day lengths, etc. too without messing up the night time brightness or the beds.

Mars also has volcanoes which are all most likely extinct and won't erupt however.. My suggestion is that there can be a volcano biome in mars.

Someone made a Martian terrain:

That's hand-built, I think, which is how it can be so nice. Still very interesting as it shows what can be done, I expect we could have automatic terrain generation making something similar if we had a couple of months to work on it.
