So my suggestion is to make them more interesting! Here are some ideas of what could be added:
Satellites
Satellites are somethings that could be added, they might also contain fuel or other metals inside of them.
Space debris
There could be possible space junk here and there in space, and space debris could possible hit space stations in order to add more challenges.
NPC space stations
NPC space stations could be added with variety between space stations. You could also possible loot these space stations if you wanted, since important materials and chests could be inside of them.
Abandoned space stations
Abandoned space stations would be ruins of NPC space stations, but there could be items that could be salvaged.
Solar storms
Solar storms could happen occasionally, which would make it almost unbearable to go outside an enclosed area with special blocks that shield the player from solar storms.
