The Yogscast essentially let out a DDOS attack against the server because so many people were trying to download it, it crashed the website because of the traffic.
They didn't do it on purpose... They released 2 video's about this mod, and because they have so many viewers, a lot of people wanted to try out the mod. The site couldn't handle all these requests, so it went down.
Again, the Yogscast did not do this on purpose.

They didn't do anything directly, they just have so many followers, and as a result of that many people, more than the site coud hold, downloaded the mod. So they effectively sent out a denial-of-service attack (at least, putting it harshly) which caused the site to become overloaded.
