My ideas for Galacticraft
Pre-designed spaceships that at like space-stations. Above planets it would say "Build spaceship in orbit" above (or below) the "build a space station" button and you could go into an editing mode (kind of like the one in starmade or whatever), where you would use the items in your inventory to create a pre-designed space ship or a space ship of your design. Ideas for it are:
  1. A flip thing like a mirror that would clone the side of the ship you are building (Provided you have the materials). It would not include small things like the hibernation chambers, chests or anything that hasn't been specified. Those must be placed separately
  2. Engines which can power it towards wherever it is specified. They must have an engine room.
  3. Controls which you can use to fly your ship in real-time or fast travel to the destination. Life support, communications, shields, weapons and hull plating are needed for ships.
Also there should be loads of aliens from different games, such as halo, xcom enemy unknown/within, Aliens v.s. Predators, etc
There should be randomly generated worlds with different biomes and possibly a civilization.
New weapons, such as plasma weapons from halo and xcom, Mass-drivers from halo and more.
New elements such as Elerium, Meld, Titanium and more.
New Vehicles like Warthogs, Scorpions, Skyrangers, UFOs and more.
Crew are required for ships. You must hire them and also hire specific ones that look after critical systems. They can be from 100s of different species (as long as you are friendly with that species). More are required for bigger ships.
Base raiding and ship boarding to add more fun and rewards.
Motherships with hundreds of weapons. Each species has a different one.
Jaegers and Kaijus from pacific rim, including many of the ones from the films and your own custom models, each with addons like plamsa cannons, swords and more.
Warp Cores to allow really fast travel.
Elysium Weapons, vehicles, etc.
Genetic Modifications.
Titans from Titanfall, along with weapons and armour.
Shatterdomes from Pacific Rim.
Health Restoration beds that heal deadly wounds (But they cost loads).
Automatic saftey belts.
When the ship gets holed, all the air rushes out and sucks crew out too.
Ship rams.
Civilian ships and trade ships which you can raid.
Special chests and pipes that connect to cargo loaders/ unloaders that will take the stuff out of rockets or put them into rockets.
Alien space ship crash sites that have loot and (maybe) some surviving crew.
In-atmosphere ships that you can use to fly around.
Exploration robots to land on planets if you can't. They should be controlled from a computer that is taken along with you.
Anomilies like Meteors (Can be mined), space ship/ station wrecks (can be boarded an explored) and wormholes (that teleport you to other systems).
Spaceships that are built out of Atmoshere that you can use to attack other ships, explore wrecks, mine asteriods and shoot you out of the ship in a drop pod (eg: HEVs from Halo).
A special base that you can launch from mars/ earth/ the moon to Europa that takes a fair ammount of time to get to europa and when it does, it crashes through the ice layer and then stops at the bottom of the layer and sets up a base. It will require lots of materials (and fuel) but it saves you the trouble of having to make it. It will have rooms, a kitchen, etc and it will be easy to expand. It also has a submarine bay.
Europa Creatures. You can see them swimming past your base.
A spaecial Europa submarine thing. Comes with the Auto base.

I would like more ideas please! And I will also be updating this as often as I can.

This option is already in game. Just pretend the "Build Space station" button says "Build Spaceship"

The idea of being able to fly around space has already been turned down by Mitch.
Indeed
Flying around space in a ''Space Ship''
Wasn't Mitch's plan

Why? it would be cool, even if it was just waiting in a custom designed ship that will alert you when you arrive. It would be quite cool. Maybe if he added xboxs or PS3s or something so you would have something to do while you waited. But it is his decision and i won't go on about it.

The pointless waiting is just that: pointless. There has been other discussions about adding pointless waiting, which I have alway been against.

The current launch also gives you no time to do anything, and that shouldn't change either. Astronaughts are strapped into their seats on launch. The aren't walking around playing games or crafting things.

The mod is about the destinations. Not about sitting around waiting to get there.

Like the games, hate the fact that you make it sound like it SHOULD be them.

Ah! But oh no!

How does our spaceship just magically go to Mars with the same fuel use and time as going to the Moon?

Armed with my incredibly valid idea, I shall CRUSH your pathetic little argument! Muahaha!

-.- mic says no to the idea though

I would prefer that if it was going to be realistic, then it should take days to reach Mars, not a minute or two in space like you would recommend. That, or, the classic and better dimension teleporting. I mean, at least you fly in the air in your rocket.

Your point isn't valid since Mic turned it down, you said so yourself. :p I crushed your little argument.

I would talk about the other ideas posted, but a lot are just adding stuff from other games. I don't care if the game is good, like X-COM, but, no.

How does water flow only 7 meters? How do blocks float in the air? How do you get perfect diamonds from smacking a rock with a pickaxe? How does ground up bone make trees and plants grow instantly? Because it's minecraft. Those 3 words just invalidated anything you could ever say about the subject.

I think it would be easy enough for Mitch to change the amount of fuel consumption based on implied distance between the starting point and destination. If he hasn't done it, either he's waiting to do it later (this is basically in testing phase of the mod) or he has reasons for not wanting to do it (eg: to keep the mod simple).

I don't know enough about the missions to various planets, but am I wrong in thinking that the engines are not burning for the entire duration of the trip. I mean I'm sure more is used during an acceleration phase to get there faster, but for the sake of simplicity as Dex Luther said can't we say that they cut the engines at roughly the same time and coast the remainder of the trip? Roughtly the same amount of fuel burned.

Yes, fuel consumption would make more sense. Though, if you consumed different amounts of fuel depending on the planet you were on, does that mean if there was a large amount of planets it would take a lot more work to make the fuel consumption work properly? Or, would you consume different amounts of fuel depending on how far it is from the Overworld?

There's two ways of doing it.

The web of destinations, which would need stats for each destination for each possible starting point.

Or as you said just assume the distance from the overworld for each destination no matter where you start off from.

Coz it's vanilla Minecraft.
