On rare occasions the sun will send a blast of radiation your way. Add a block called Solar Sensor. This block must be in view of the sun to function, same way the solar panels work. If a solar storm is on its way it will play a sound with a 64(?) block range(you'd need the frequency module to hear it of course). Thermal armor would offer some protection, but you must be in a properly shielded room during the solar storm to be completely safe(Any room built out of sealable blocks with a hardness of 5 or above, such as iron).
Maybe have it mess with electrical systems too, but that might be difficult to do with the sheer amount of mods that use other types of cables, machines and energy.
